Starting out

I started researching my ancestors whilst we were in Covid lockdown here the UK in 2020. At that point my family really did not know much about my maternal ancestors. They weren’t particularly famous and some of them had pretty humble trades. I wasn’t sure how much I would be able to find out.

4 years on and I have been pleasantly surprised. The records available in the UK and across the world are pretty amazing. The records available do depend on where you are looking. I am lucky to have some early ancestors in central London where there were amazing records. My ancestors there were shoe makers, coach platers and compositors. It has been remarkably easy to find them.

And then I did my DNA, and that of my parents and various uncles and aunts. And even more verifiable history was suddenly available to me.

The difficulty then comes in deciding how to communicate that information. And I have gradually realised it has to unfold slowly from where we are now backwards. So I hope to build out from fairly recent history back to early 1700’s where I have been able to verify to.

I plan to blog a little about my process as I go.

This is a work in progress. I hope it fits the bill.
